Everything You Need, Just Around The CornerSelf Catering, Dog Friendly Accommodation in Babbacombe
When we were choosing a name for our self catering Babbacombe holiday house we found ourselves saying time and time again that the beautiful Babbacombe clifftop, cliff railway, Oddicombe and Babbacombe beach and downs, the restaurants, cafes, pubs and wine bars are just around the corner! Babbacombe theatre, model village, tea rooms (delicious Devon cream teas) are situated just around the corner!
There are lots of places to visit around and about – a stroll away is St Marychurch, next village to Babbacombe, a pretty little town with a pedestrianised shopping precinct. There is a good butchers, a fresh fish shop selling a wide variety of freshly caught fish from Brixham and some delightful little shops and cafes.
Things To Do
Agatha Christie’s summer home ‘Greenway’s’ is well worth a visit. The house and grounds are National Trust if you are members. Children are fascinated to see the tiny dwellings
and railway at the Model Village and on the way there you will pass a museum of Victoria Street Life called ByGones (excellent rainy day activities.)
For those who love walking you have an abundance of countryside around the Babbacombe area with Dartmoor National Park being under an hour’s drive away.
Beaches are plentiful: Oddicombe beach where you can travel on the Cliff Railway or walk down to the beach via the cliff path. Alongside this is Babbacombe beach – both awarded blue flag. The surrounding coastline has many more beaches, Torquay itself has a beautiful stretch of sandy beach, around the headline to the right is Paignton Sands and to the left of St Marychurch is the traditional seaside town of Teignmouth, great for families having a popular playpark, crazy golf and skate park known as The Den, plenty of restaurants, shops and cafes and of course a glorious large beach.
Opposite Teignmouth is the quaint little village of Shaldon which is situated on the River Teign, accessed by the road bridge or it’s fun to get the little ferry from Teignmouth’s river beach. Here you can stroll around the little streets, enjoy one of the cafes or restaurants and even jump on another ferry to Brixham.
For a shopping day Exeter is a lovely city with the cathedral and interesting museum.
